The NZ Transport Agency conducts an Operator Rating System (ORS), which is a procedure that focuses on making our roads safer for everyone by improving the safety of heavy vehicles in Aotearoa.
NZ Transport Agency has combined forces with the New Zealand Police to create a system that recognises possible high-risk drivers for examination and to provide support on how to improve their safety techniques. The ORS encourages transport operators to comply with safe vehicle and driving practices by rating the compliance of the operator and vehicle.
What are ORS ratings? Much like a restaurant rating, the ORS is scored from one to five stars (one being the lowest) and is based on a 12-month assessment including certificate of fitness (CoF) inspections, roadside inspections and certain types of offending.
